THE LAST UNICORN by Peter S. Beagle is one of the greatest fantasy novels of all time. Since its publication in 1968 it has never been out of print, with 6 million-plus copies sold around the world, and it has been translated into more than 20 languages. The animated movie version, starring film and theatrical greats such as Sir Christopher Lee, Angela Lansbury, Mia Farrow, Alan Arkin, and Jeff Bridges has been seen by hundreds of millions of people, and is regularly shown on cable and satellite around the world. STORY

The Unicorn discovers that she is the last of her kind in the world, and sets off to find the others. She meets Schmendrick the Magician — whose magic seldom works, and never as he intended — when he rescues her from Mommy Fortuna's Midnight Carnival, where only some of the fearsome mythical beasts displayed are illusions. They are joined by Molly Grue, who believes in legends despite her experiences with a Robin Hood wannabe and his unmerry men. Ahead wait the brooding King Haggard and his nightmarish Red Bull, who hold the key to the Unicorn’s destiny...

PRAISE FOR THE LAST UNICORN

“Like Beagle’s adored cult classic of 1968, Promethean’s new adaptation is a delightfully weird quest. Kyla Embrey as the Unicorn and Nick Lake as a sweetly resigned wizard ground the evening with a sense of wry, eternal mourning. As any good fantasy should, the designs, and the production, allow room for the audience’s imagination...it’s a charming jaunt that more than lives up to its source.” — Time Out Chicago

“Ambitious and finely imagined stage adaptation of Beagle’s 1968 novel, The Last Unicorn. Meticulously covers most of the adventures from Beagle’s novel making for a complex, enduring, and entertaining theatrical event…” — Chicago Critic

“Adaptation was both imaginative and loyal...Never condescending, the show was nonetheless appropriate for children as well as adults, those who have grown with the story, and those lucky enough to experience it for the first time.” — Centerstage Chicago

“For over forty years, Peter S. Beagle has been the gold standard of fantasy, one of the most elegant and genuine writers of fantastic fiction out there. His short stories are jewels. In Japan they declare their finest, most irreplaceable artists national treasures, and if there was any justice in the world Peter would be declared a treasure and be left alone to get on with making magic.” — Neil Gaiman (author of Stardust, Neverwhere, Coraline, The Graveyard Book).
